Overview

Manager, Federal Government Relations at Recycled Materials Association (ReMA) is responsible for supporting the organizations federal advocacy efforts. With the oversight of senior policy staff, the MFGR conducts research, tracks legislative and regulatory developments, engages with policymakers, coordinates lobbying activities, and assists in PAC management. The candidate will work with the broader Advocacy, Safety and Sustainability teams to ensure that ReMAs federal lobbying efforts are strategic, effective, and impactful.

The ReMA represents more than 1,700 companies in the U.S. and globally and promotes safe, economically sustainable, and environmentally responsible recycling through education, networking, and advocacy. ReMA is based in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and analyzes federal legislative and regulatory initiatives that affect the recycled materials industry, identifying policy implications with guidance from senior policy staff. Issues include environmental, tax, and transportation policy.
  • Develops relationships with stakeholders and represents ReMA at briefings, hearings, coalition meetings, seminars, and other meetings, often alongside senior policy staff.
  • Conveys detailed policy information clearly in written publications such as blogs, white papers, briefs, and other memos, under the direction of senior policy staff.
  • Assists in drafting testimony, regulatory comments, letters to Congress, and other regulatory correspondence, directed and reviewed by senior policy staff.
  • Supports engagement with congressional offices, federal agencies, and industry coalitions to build relationships for federal policy action.
  • Assists in organizing and preparing for lobbying meetings, fly-ins, and other advocacy events as directed by senior staff.
  • Supports development of advocacy materials, presentations, trainings, and reports.
  • Assists in managing ReMAs Federal PAC, including developing disbursement criteria and organizing fundraising events.
  • Collaborates with ReMAs communications, membership, and broader advocacy, safety, and sustainability teams to amplify policy priorities and messaging.
  • Provides administrative support for maintenance of internal and external documents, public-facing webpages, and related items as directed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree and 2-5 years of relevant work experience in government, public policy, government relations, or the recycled materials industry.
  • Broad knowledge of tax and trade policy, environmental regulation, or sustainability issues is preferred.
  • Familiarity with grassroots advocacy and coalition building.
  • Willingness to learn and improve skills in government relations and public policy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable delivering presentations to small and large audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with policymakers, staff, and external organizations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks and deadlines, and adapt to workload changes.
  • Ability to work in a politically neutral manner and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information when required.

Working Conditions

  • Salary range: 80,000 90,000 USD.
  • Some travel required (approximately 20-25%) to attend annual meetings and other events.
  • Professional office environment with standard office equipment; may involve extended periods of sitting or standing and occasional lifting up to forty pounds.
