The department of Psychiatry has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Arts Therapist to work on the UHealth campus. The Arts Therapist functions as an integral part of the treatment team, and facilitates groups and individual expressive art projects with patients. Key responsibilities include planning, designing, and implementation of therapeutic creative and expressive activities and programs for patients; provides support services for patients and their families of various ages by using creative mediums to assist them in increasing their physical, cognitive and emotional health. This role also oversees group safety and plans activities that meet the patient's and clinical group needs.
CORE FUNCTIONS Patient Care - Facilitate individual and group art therapy sessions for patients of all ages, focusing on emotional support, self-expression, coping strategies, and quality-of-life improvement.
- Tailor art therapy interventions to meet the diverse needs of oncology patients at different stages of treatment, recovery, or end-of-life care.
- Provide art therapy services to families and caregivers as appropriate, addressing their emotional and psychological needs.
- Offer bedside art therapy services to inpatients, addressing anxiety, depression, and other psychosocial challenges associated with cancer diagnoses and treatment.
- Provide support to patients receiving chemotherapy, using art therapy to create a calming and therapeutic environment.
- Educate patients, families, and staff on the benefits of art therapy in oncology care, fostering an understanding of its role in holistic patient care.
Collaboration - Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, social workers, and other allied health professionals, to integrate art therapy into overall care plans.
- Participate in patient care team meetings to provide insights on patient progress and recommend therapeutic interventions.
Documentation and Reporting - Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient interactions, progress, and outcomes in accordance with hospital and regulatory standards.
- Develop and present reports on program outcomes and patient feedback to inform ongoing improvements.
Program Development - Assist in developing and expanding art therapy programs tailored to the needs of oncology patients, ensuring alignment with the cancer center's mission, and integrating evidence-based practices.
- Create opportunities for public awareness and education about the benefits of art therapy within the hospital and community.
Professional Development - Stay updated on advancements in art therapy, oncology care, and psychosocial support by attending workshops, conferences, and continuing education programs.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and research projects related to art therapy and oncology

- Basic Life Support Certification (CPR)
- CTRS Certificate
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
